Course Objectives

  • Through this course, the students will be able to learn exact methods of engineering materials testing. 
  • Increase shear strength and therefore bearing capacity and stiffness.
  • The mechanical or sieve analysis is performed to determine the distribution of the coarser, larger-sized particles
  • The compression index may be estimated, which is used in settlement analysis. 
  • The California Bearing Ratio or CBR test 
  • To determine the strength and workability of concrete mixture.
  • The purpose of concrete cube test is to ensure that the concrete meets its expected compressive strength.
  • Air content test is typically required for checking air-entrained concrete in areas where frost-related damage can occur.
  • The other benefit of monitoring the concrete temperature is to follow the curing process/maturity of the concrete.
  • The Atterberg limits are a basic measure of the critical water contents
